Lyndhurst Pastry Shop Celebrates 60 Years

The Lanzerotti Family would like to take this opportunity to thank all of their customers and friends for their loyal patronage and for allowing the family to continue to serve the community.

Jerry Lanzerotti, Sr., worked alongside his father, Anthony Lanzerotti in several Brooklyn, NY pastry shops.  He also served as a baker in the Army and after his discharge, Jerry and his brothers, Joseph and Anthony, worked together with their dad.  The Lanzerotti family was fortunate to have a long line of bakers in their family who we re great teachers.  In fact, many of their recipes are from Grandpa Anthony’s home town of Catania, Sicily, where the family emigrated from in 1913.

Anthony (Butch), Charles (Chuck) and Jerry, Jr. took over the business in 1989.  Jerry Sr. was proud of his three sons and always said he had them to thank for the continued success of the business.  The family has been blessed to inherit not only recipes but a hard work ethic shown by Jerry Sr. and his wife, Vee.  Jerry Sr.’s caricature in the store window is a reminder of dedication to family, business, and the community. The commitment to these values is especially acknowledged during busy times by their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

For the past 60 years, the Lanzerotti Family has served the community with assorted pastries, including cannoli, sfogliatelle, Italian cookies, pies, turnovers, cheesecakes, and wedding and specialty cakes for all occasions.  Their “Grandma Pauline” cookies are a recent addition to their treats.  This recipe was handed down by their beloved maternal grandmother and is an Italian favorite.

Traditionally, young children have been offered a pink heart cookie when they visit the store.  Now, sixty years later, it is a wonderful feeling to hear adults say, “I remember when I was given a pink heart cookie when I was little.”

For the holidays, traditional items for families to enjoy are for sale.  Assorted pies are available for Thanksgiving; at Christmas, strouffle (honey balls) and Italian Fig cookies are among the various desserts sold.  In the spring, they make wheat pies and pizza rustica (Italian meat pie) for Easter and on March 19th for St. Joseph’s Day, you can find Sfinge and Zeppoli.

From March to November, the Lyndhurst Pastry Shop is known for their Italian Ices which are made on site.  Their assorted flavors including Lemon, Chocolate and Yum-Yum have been enjoyed by many near and far.

The Lanzerotti Family would like to thank all of their dedicated, hardworking, employees that have become like family and who continue to extend the “personal touch” to all customers.  They would also like to thank the community for their steadfast loyalty.  In tremendous gratitude, the Lanzerotti Family would like to invite their customers to help celebrate their 60th Anniversary on NOVEMBER 14, 2008 at the Lyndhurst Pastry Shop, 256 Ridge Road, Lyndhurst, NJ from 8:00am to 6:00pm.  Complementary cake and coffee will be served.
